Firmware Engineer (vendor position)

Microsoft Asia Center for Hardware (MACH) is a fast-growing organization in Windows and Devices Group. MACH is a world leader in design, development and manufacturing focusing on lighting up Microsoft experience with premium first party Surface device accessories and Windows accessories for computers/laptops/tablets.

MACH firmware team is looking for an experienced Firmware Engineer with a great passion on embedded system design and development for premium Surface accessories and Windows accessories for computers/laptops/tablets. The individual will work closely with program manager, electrical engineer, software development engineer and design verification engineer to define and implement products and features.

Responsibilities:
A successful candidate needs to have the courage and conviction to make decisions in ambiguous situations. Candidate needs to be well prepared to lead team development efforts, cooperate within and across groups and functions. Ideal candidate needs to demonstrate strong ownership and accountability, has excellent communication skills, enjoys learning, can effectively bring solutions to difficult problems, and has great attention to details. Other key responsibilities include

?Define and present product and platform specifications and features.
?Ensure that designs meet established specifications, cost, timeline and development budgets.
?Embedded system firmware development. Root cause, debug and resolve FW issues.
?FW code reviews. Design FW architecture. Ensure FW to be reusable, portable and testable.
?Ensure good documentation of FW as well as version control.
?Manage project FW scope and risks. Make tradeoff decisions and proposals where needed.
?Manage internal and outsourced development efforts and cross-boundary collaboration.
?Troubleshoot and analyze technical problems and recommend solutions.
?Collaborate with marketing and technology teams and participate in project reviews.

Qualifications:
?Bachelor/Master in Electronics, automation, or Computer Engineering or equivalent is required.
?3+ years of experience in firmware and embedded systems development.
?Strong design and coding skills.
?Can implement new firmware designs from ground up, including firmware architecture definition, state machine design, hardware component selection and protocol definition.
?Has strong root causing, analyzing and debugging skills. Able to effectively find ways to reproduce difficult problems, root cause and then find solutions.
?Strong leadership skills in decision making, influencing others, forming consensus and managing conflicts.
?Real project experiences in direct hardware or firmware design & development.
?Solid communication skills in English. Oral, written and presentation skills in English is a must. Chinese language is a plus.
?Understanding of embedded system architecture.
?Understanding of hardware design at component and circuit level.
?Understanding of microcontroller architecture and real time FW design and development. Knowledge of Nordic, NXP, and BCM microcontrollers is a plus.
?In depth knowledge of the industrial protocols that you have worked on.
?Knowledge of USB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi protocols is a plus.
?Willing to travel to USA and Asia countries.
?Experience of managing OEM suppliers is a plus.
